Marvin "Marv" Berndt

MARVIN “MARV” JOHN BERNDT, age 71 of Waseca, died at his home on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on January 27, 1946, Marv was the son of George and Carol (McNaughton) Berndt.  He went to school in Wisconsin before graduating from high school in Minnesota in 1965.  At age 19 Marv enlisted in the United States Army.  During his thirteen years in the service Marv was a cook and also a mechanic.  He spent time stationed in Guam, Vietnam, Korea, Italy, Japan, France, Holland, Germany, Thailand, and lastly in Ft. Carson Colorado.  During his time in Colorado Marv also worked at the Coors Brewing Company.  Upon his return to Minnesota in 1986 he went to work at Brown Printing Company as a machine operator until his retirement.  He married Karil Kay Perkins on July 19th, 1994.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Marv was a member of the Waseca American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Karil of Waseca and her three children and their families whom Marv lovingly accepted as his own.  Children include Nicole Perkins of Waseca and her daughter Emilie Perkins, Joshua Quillen of Waseca and his children, Kayedence and Kyah Quillen, and Natalie Quillen and her partner Tommy Scott of Waseca and their children, Kialyn, Koltyn, Nalyce Quillen and Memphis Scott.  He is also survived by two siblings, Dorothea “Dody” Lupu of Mt. Lookout, WV, and Alfred (Debbie) Hadt of Waseca; one sister-in-law, Linda Berndt of Waseca; eleven nieces and nephews, William Hadt of Waseca, Andrew (Stacy) Hadt of Owatonna, Sarah (Greg) Hadt of Rice Lake, WI, Timothy (Heather) Berndt of St. Anthony, Kathryn (Dan) Sykora of FL, Ronald (Laurie Stroic) Lupu of WV, Jeanine (Craig) Williams of LA, Kimberlee Buccholtz of MO, Michele (Matthew) Ellsworth of Alpena, MI, Ronda (Joseph) Holley of Summersville, WV, and Susan (William) Cottrell of Mt. Lookout, WV; as well as eight great-nieces-and-nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, George “Butch” Berndt, and one brother-in-law, Ronald Lupu.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. David Baumgarn officiating.  Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church.
