Roland "Joe" Bittrich

ROLAND “JOE” BITTRICH, age 76 of Waterville died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Laurel’s Peak in Mankato.

Born on June 13, 1942 in Faribault, Minnesota, he was the son of Walter and Dorothy (Fessel) Bittrich.  He attended school in Waterville and went on to serve in the National Guard.  Joe married Linda Melchert on July 23, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault.   He was worked for Lowell Renken for many years and later was employed at Gear and Broach in Waterville until his health forced him to retire.  Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville and the American Legion Post 311 of Elysian. 

Joe is survived by three children, Randy Bittrich of Mankato, Scott (Kim) Bittrich of Mankato, and Lisa (Jerry) Hohn of St. Clair; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.  He is also survived by siblings, Harry Bittrich of Waterville, Esther (Jerry) Lamont of Waseca, Linda Anderson of Waterville, and Debbie (Gayle) Hogan of Waterville; sister-in-law, Barb Bittrich of Waterville; brother-in-law, Frank Ahlman of Faribault and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda in 1977; one son in infancy; three brothers, Bob (Joyce), Hank (Elnore), and Dennis; and two sisters, Irene Bittrich and Bernice Ahlman.  

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville with Rev. David Mumme officiating.  Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church.
