Joan Bruns

JOAN BRUNS, age 76 of Waterville died on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato surrounded by her family.

Born on the home farm in Le Sueur County, Minnesota on August 19, 1940, she was the daughter of Theodore and Helen (Boldt) Kewatt.  She attended school in rural Le Sueur County before graduating from Le Center High School in 1959.  Joan married Victor Bruns on May 19, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilkenny.  Together they farmed and raised their family in rural Waterville.  She also worked for Munsingwear from 1959-1961 and in later years for BirdsEye, Green Giant, and various group homes.   Joan loved bird watching, fishing, canning and gardening and dancing.  She was a member of St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid and an honorary member of the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club.

She is survived by three children, Jeffrey (Mary Jane) Bruns, Nancy (Dennis Sr.) Delaske and Patrick (Carrie) Bruns all of Waterville; and eight grandchildren, Amy, Matthew, Joshua, Ashley, Mandy, Hannah, Callie, and Victoria; and two great grandchildren, Jase and Aubree.  She is also survived by siblings, Betty Braun of Montgomery, Charles (JoAnn) Kewatt of Columbia Heights, Donald Kewatt of Kilkenny, and Jerry (LaVonne) Kewatt of Calhan, CO; sister-in-law, Jeanette Kewatt of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Alan; two brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 2-5 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church with Rev. Russell Grabau officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
