Richard "Dick" Chambers, Jr.

RICHARD CHAMBERS, JR, age 70 of Waterville, died surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, November 22, 2018.

Richard “Dick” Chambers Jr, also known as “Red”, was raised and lived in Waterville, MN.  He was drafted and served in Vietnam.  We won’t forget the sacrifice he made for his country and future family.  Early on he worked for Komatz Construction and then made a career at Farm Bureau Insurance.  Later in life he also became a hobby farmer.  He loved to help my brother with the field work whenever he could.

He married his wife Deb of 45 years, had 2 sons, (Joel and Jay), and 3 grandchildren (Casey, Hailey, and Lanie).  Dick’s family was his pride and joy.  He made sure they were always taken care of.  For years he put boats and jet skis in the lake, and always made sure we had enough fuel to play all day.  If you had car trouble, needed to shingle a roof, build a shed, or even move a deer stand late at night.  Dick was always there to help anyway he could.

In what little spare time he had Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing, and eating a big bowl of Schwann’s ice cream while watching a movie.  He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up.  Casey, 14, playing baseball and basketball.  Hailey, 11, acting in the community theater, playing volleyball, and softball.  Finally, Lanie, 8, racing around the yard on a four-wheeler, coloring pictures for grandma and grandpa, and telling jokes to put a smile on his face.

Throughout his life Dick lived by certain standards.  As a parent he instilled these in his sons and grandchildren.  He believed in working hard and always doing your best.  One often used quote growing up was, “if you’re going to do something half assed, don’t do it at all”.  How very true that is.  Honesty and integrity were very important to him.  He always taught us to treat people with respect and kindness.  You never know where they come from, or what their story is.

Dick is survived by his wife Deb (Carlson) Chambers, son Joel and his wife Lynn Parker, son Jay and wife Betsy (Bianchi) Chambers, and their 3 children Casey (14), Hailey (11), and Lanie (8).  He is also survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother.  Dick was preceded in death by his father Richard Chambers Sr and mother Mary Ann (Miller) Chambers.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville.  A private family interment will take place at North Waseca Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice program in Mankato or to the Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester.
