Lawrence Clemons

LAWRENCE FRANKLIN CLEMONS, age 85 of Waseca died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on September 26, 1930 in Elysian, Minnesota, he was the son of Alvah and Mary (Wesley) Clemons.  He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1948.  Lawrence worked as a meat cutter at Minske’s Grocery Store before marrying Leta Root on October 3, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He worked for several years at Brown Printing Co. delivering paper.  Lawrence purchased a second-hand store in Waseca and later built Suburban Furniture, east of Waseca, which he owned and operated for 44 years, retiring in 1993.  In retirement, Lawrence opened another second-hand store for a few years. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, playing golf, and “fixing” things.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca and the Knights of Columbus.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Leta of Waseca; nine children, Deb (Terry) Roemhildt of Waseca, Susan Clemons of Mesa, AZ, Jane Clemons of Waseca, Carol (Jim) Hanson of Elk River, Kevin (Keri) Clemons of Waseca, Paul (Julie) Clemons of Lakeville, John (Mary) Clemons of Waseca, Gale Clemons (Jim Peterson) of Columbia Heights, and Ellen (Cliff) Canavin of Mankato; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.   He is also survived by three brothers, Leonard Clemons of Des Plains, IL, Jim (Mary Kay) Myers of Oregon, and Jerry (Marlene) Myers of Maple Grove.   He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee; two grandchildren; two brothers; Milton and Joe Clemons; and three sisters, Loretta Hoffman, Rita Kortuem Gallagher, and Patricia Myers Winjum.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4-8 PM with an 8:00 PM parish prayer service and continue on Tuesday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Father Gregory Leif officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
