Russell Dahnert

RUSSELL P. DAHNERT, age 90 of Waseca, died peacefully at his home on Monday, August 27, 2018 surrounded by his family under the care of Heartland Hospice.

Born in Waseca on May 14, 1928, Russell was one of seven children born to Frank and Hilma (Peterson) Dahnert. With four brothers and two sisters in his home there was always a sense of adventure growing up. He graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1948 where he played football and had been a co-captain of the 1947 district championship basketball team. He married Shirley Peek on April 25, 1953 in Waseca. He worked for many years at Herter’s in Waseca and later worked at the University of Minnesota Waseca Technical College. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Waseca Chapter, and was an active bowler in his earlier years. Family was always first and most important to Russell. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, and traveling with family.

Russell is survived by his wife, Shirley of Waseca; four children, Mary Dahnert of Jordan, Pam (Tom) McAdaragh of Sioux Falls, SD, Blake (Jeanne) Dahnert of Houston, TX, and Brian Dahnert of Waseca; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Dahnert and Vada Dahnert both of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hilma; and all six of his siblings, Frances, Robert, Fern, Raymond, Rollie, and Rodger.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
