David Egeness

DAVID CARL AUGUST EGENESS, age 74 of Waseca died on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on November 13, 1941 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Howard and Leona (Brase) Egeness.  He attended school in Meriden before graduating from Owatonna High School.  David served in the US Navy from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965 where he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base and Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard.   He married Joanne Madigan on April 28, 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Meriden.   Following his military service, David went to work at Streator Industries in Albert Lea where he began as a computer operator and later became a programmer.  Following a move to Red Wing, he worked for Red Wing Shoe as a system analyst, programming computer systems.  He later worked in the Twin Cities area for Parker Hanifin Corp. as a MIS Manager.  David continued his work as an independent contractor doing system design and building computer systems in North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, and Virginia.   David enjoyed bird watching, lutefisk, and polka and waltz dancing.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca where he was active with Men in Mission.  He was also a member of the American Legion in Waseca and New Ulm.

David is survived by his wife, Joanne of Waseca; three daughters, Denise Manzelli of Fairfax, VA, Deborah (Dudley) Thomas of Belle Plaine, and Colleen (Stephen) Ashbery of Kentwood, MI; eight grandchildren, Christopher Manzelli, Stephanie Powell, Shane Powell, Pamela Brown, Ashley Thomas, Zachary Thomas, McKenzie Thomas, Katelyn Adler, Alaura Ashbery, and Ayedan Ashbery; and one great-grandchild.  He is also survived by two sisters, Diane (Arleigh) Baker of Longwood, FL and Donna Jacobsen of Albert Lea.   He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard John Egeness; and one grandson, Brandon Daniel Egeness.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 4-8 PM and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. John Omans officiating.
