John David "Jack" Erwin

JOHN DAVID “JACK” ERWIN, age 88 of Waseca, died on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Lakeshore Inn in Waseca.

Born in Waseca on October 12, 1924, John was the son of Rolland and Elnora (Arentsen) Erwin.  As a young man he attended school in Waseca and graduated from Waseca High School.  On December 19, 1944 Jack was united in marriage to Maxine Statham at the First Congregational Church in Waseca.  Together they lived and worked on the family farm until 1966.  At that time Jack began working at Bird’s Eye Foods in Waseca, a career he continued until his retirement in 1990.  Jack was a lifelong resident of the Waseca area.  He enjoyed gardening and caring for his lawn.  He was a member of the Waseca Oddfellows for over 50 years and was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Waseca.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Lyle) Scherff of Welch; one granddaughter, Tammy (Warren) Peine of Hastings; one step-granddaughter, Rachael Taxdahl of Northfield; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Brett Peine of Hastings; three step-great-grandchildren, Arynn and Brayden Taxdahl of Goodhue and Cameron Delaney of Northfield; and two special friends, Marvel Miller and Gordon Foels both of Waseca.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and his wife in 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the First Congregational Church in Waseca, with Rev. Chris Meirose officiating.  Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
