Leona R. Ewest

LEONA R. EWEST, age 94 of Waseca, died on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Colony Court Memory Care in Waseca.

Leona Rosella was born on May 19, 1921 in Waseca County, Minnesota; she was the daughter of William and Martha (Rudolph) Meyer.   Her family moved to Long Prairie in 1922 and she attended rural schools and parochial school.  Leona married Harold Ewest on April 21, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.  She and her husband farmed in Woodville Township until 1971.  She was also employed at E.F. Johnson Co. for 17 years.   She enjoyed gardening.  Leona was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, the Cotta Guild, and the quilters.  She was also a member of the Waseca Area Senior Citizens where she enjoyed working with the elderly and also volunteered at Lake Shore Inn.

She is survived by three sons, Galen Ewest of Waseca, Bradley (Barbara) Ewest of Ankeny, IA, and Brian (Katherine) Ewest of Waseca; 13 grandchildren;  26 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother, Roland Meyer of Waseca; one sister, Esther Trevethan of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.   Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Lois; and 3 brothers, Edwin, Kenneth, and Marvin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church.
