Gordon "Gordy" Foels

GORDON “GORDY” FOELS, age 94 of Waseca died peacefully at home on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Born on October 17, 1923 in New Richland, Minnesota, he was the son of Walter and Alpha (Roesler) Foels.   He grew up on a farm in New Richland, attended New Richland Country School and graduated from New Richland High School.   Gordy married Lois Bathke on October 24, 1956 at the Evangelical Church in Waseca and they raised their family in rural Waseca.  He worked for John Deere in Waseca, EF Johnson Co., and retired from the University of Minnesota in Waseca.  Gordy was also a local seed corn dealer for many years.   He devoted his life to faith and family.   He enjoyed traveling and camping.  His passion in life was fulfilling each family members interest from wood working to planting trees, fishing, farming, and family gatherings.  He enjoyed spending time with his Wednesday morning coffee gang and volunteering at Farmamerica.  Gordy especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Over the years he served as a church youth leader and Sunday School treasurer at Salem Evangelical Church and was currently a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.  He will be remembered for his kind smile, helpful hands, and sense of humor.   

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lois; two sons, Ron and his wife Kim, Bruce and his wife Tammy; one daughter, Marla and her husband Craig Watje; 11 grandchildren, Stacy, Heather (Aaron), Heidi (Matt), Matt (Michelle), Nick (Sonja), Blaine (Nikki), Jay (Amy), Mitch (Amanda), Kelly Jo, Megan (Ryan), Michael; great grandchildren, Nora, Beckett, Blair, Brooks, Theo, Tenley, Berklee, and Baby Bryndol arriving soon; one sister, Betty Kormann; sister-in-law, Arlene Foels, and a host of other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth; and one sister Valera Born.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Visitation will be held on Friday, one hour before services at the church.   Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ the King Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
