Daniel Gades

DANIEL L. GADES, age 66 of Waseca, died on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Born on June 26, 1946 in Glenwood, Minnesota, he was the son of Lorenz and Pearl (Dietz) Gades.  Dan graduated from Glenwood High School in 1964 and then graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in mathematics.  After graduation he taught school in Lake Crystal for one year.   He married Peggy Neumann on July 12, 1969 in Alexandria, Minnesota.    Dan then served in the U.S. Navy for six years.  He was assigned to the USS Paiute, an ocean-faring fleet tug that traveled throughout Europe lending support to Navy ships.  Following his honorable discharge, he and his wife moved to Waseca and he was employed at E.F. Johnson Co. for about thirty years.  He then worked at ADC Telecommunications in Shakopee followed by EI Microcircuits in Mankato until retiring in 2011.  He cherished the many friendships he made over the years.  Through the years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, athletics, listening to his wife play piano, and actively supported the Waseca Marching Jays music program.  In addition, he was a member of an inventors group called MinnVentions.  One of his inventions was the Horn Dazzler light that the Waseca band uses to illuminate their instruments while performing.  Dan was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, having served on numerous boards and committees.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife Peggy of Waseca; one daughter, Lisa Gades (Kevin Beyer) of Aurora, IL; one son, Todd (Amanda) Gades of Lakeville; siblings, Charles (Sandra) Gades of Colville, WA, David Gades of Verndale, Amy (Ed) Bounds of Prior Lake, Diane Hansen of Verndale, Mark (Sheila) Gades of Verndale, Jeffrey (Kay) Gades of Bertha, James (Sheila) Gades of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 4-7 PM and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Giles Zimmer officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
