Lucille A. Greeney-Anderson

LUCILLE ALMA GREENEY-ANDERSON, age 97 of Waseca, died on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Waseca.

Born on July 14, 1916, in Nunda Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, Lucille was the daughter of Louis and Ella (Freemott) Leonhardi.  Raised with her four sisters on the family farm north of Emmons, Lucille completed high school before attending nurse’s training at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea.  She then moved to Waseca for her first nursing position at the Waseca Hospital.  She continued her career there for 29 years, helping deliver many of the town’s babies.  On January 2, 1941, she married Howard Greeney at the Episcopal Church in Waseca, and they were later blessed with two children – Thomas Howard and Linda Lucille.  Lucille retired from her nursing career after working at Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home, at which point she and Howard enjoyed baking bread, making wine, ice fishing, and spending time together.  Following Howard’s death from cancer in 1986, she moved to Real Life and enjoyed reading, helping others, and traveling, often with one of her four sisters.  On January 23, 1993, she married Lester Anderson, who had also lost a spouse.  Together they traveled, enjoying local bus trips and once-in-a-lifetime trips to Alaska and the Holy Land.  Lucille joined Les at Grace Lutheran Church and became active in the quilters group.  After Lester’s death in 2006, Lucille took on the honor of making quilts for all the couples being married at Grace, as well as welcoming quilts for all staff members, and a few to send on mission trips to the reservation.  In 2011, she moved to Latham Place and enjoyed welcoming new residents, attending Bible studies, winning a few bingo games, and instigating Yahtzee night.  She also enjoyed night time walks in the hall delivering clementines or candy gifts to the shelves outside of the rooms.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Linda (Henry) Tetzlaff of Apple Valley; daughter-in-law, Carol Greeney of Faribault; two step-children, Marlene (Mike) Donahue of Mankato, and Larry (Lu) Anderson of Waseca; eleven grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; her oldest sister, Dora Oney of Waseca; and her youngest sister, Nylene Sherman of Cambridge, MD.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard; her second husband, Lester; her son, Thomas; and two older sisters, Lillian Anderson and Edna Olson.  She will be missed by all the people she touched in her ninety-seven years.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Howard White officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
