Phyllis Marie Hanks

PHYLLIS MARIE HANKS, age 94 of Kilkenny, died on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Born on May 28, 1923 in Faribault, Minnesota she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Chappuis) Pemrick.  Phyllis attended rural Rice County school and at the age of 65 earned her GED.  She married Bernard Hanks on November 15, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault.  In her teen years, Phyllis did housework for neighbors and after getting married helped farm. She later worked at E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca for ten years.  Phyllis enjoyed flowers, quilting, collecting agates, fishing, gardening, and woodworking with her husband.  She also loved to travel, and had taken many vacations with family and friends, including a trip to Ireland.  Phyllis was a member of St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny where she was involved in the St. Canice Rosary Society, the Kilkenny Senior Citizens, and Kilkenny Community Sportsman Club.  Phyllis also volunteered at the Waterville High School in the woodworking class.

Phyllis is survived by three children, Donald (Sharon) Hanks of Kilkenny, James (Helen) Hanks of Waterville, and Nancy (Lee) Frederick of Lake Crystal; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren; two siblings, Betty Sammon of Florida, and Peter (Wendy) Pemrick of Chanhassen;  sister-in-law, Darlene Pemrick of Faribault and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two children, Tom and Kathy; two brothers, Clifford and Bill; one sister, Patricia; and one sister-in-law, Viola Pemrick.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 4-7 PM at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny.
