Sigri A. Hecht

SIGRI A. HECHT, age 88 of Waseca died on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Born on February 5, 1925 in Faribault County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Gunder and Caroline (Lien) Gunderson.  She attended rural Faribault County school district #11 and graduated from Delavan High School in 1942.  She then graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1946.  Sigri worked at Fairmont Foods in Fairmont and Waseca and later moved to Waseca and met her future husband while working at Birds Eye Division of General Foods in Waseca.  She married Loren Hecht June 6, 1954 at the West Delavan Church.  She then stopped working to raise their family.  She later returned to work at Birds Eye where she continued to work until retiring in 1987.  She enjoyed playing scrabble, writing cards and notes, pets and her grandchildren.  Sigri was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and was active with the Ladies Aid.  Through the years she had also been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Monday Study Club, Toastmasters and volunteered with the Red Cross.

Sigri is survived by four children, Michael Hecht of Waseca, Miles Hecht of Minneapolis, Mark (Peggy) Hecht of Elysian, and Marilyn Hecht of Nashville, TN; four step grandchildren, Brad & Taia Hermel, Patrick Hermel, Steven (Bonnie) Hermel, and Liz (Fred) Pratt;  thirteen step great grandchildren; two sister-in-law, Verda Schweim of Chaska and Ardella Draheim of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 4-7 PM at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Roger Haug and Rev. Paige Whitney officiating.  Burial will follow at Immanuel United Methodist Cemetery in Blooming Grove Township.
