Mildred Kuschel

Mildred Emma (Hein) Kuschel, 86 of Waseca, Minnesota went to her eternal home on Sunday April 14, 2019 after courageously battling recently discovered cancer.

She was born on November 5, 1932 in Pine River, Minnesota, the second to the youngest of twelve children born to Ewald and Christina Hein. The family moved west in 1935 and eventually settled in Camas, Washington. She graduated from Camas High School and worked at Camas Paper Mill. The family enjoyed playing hearts.

Mildred met Ronald Kuschel at a Walther League convention in Oklahoma. They married June 13, 1959 and lived in Wisconsin until moving to Waseca in 1965. She was a homemaker when her children were young and worked at Birds Eye and Brown Printing. She enjoyed traveling especially out west to visit her family. She loved Jesus and people and will be remembered for her gentle, fun, sweet loving personality and strong faith. She was a wonderful cook and blessed many with delicious meals, pies and the best sugar cookies. She enjoyed visiting people and delivered meals on wheels with her friend. Her family was very important to her and she loved hosting birthday parties, holidays and meals. She loved to hear the sound of children’s laughter filling her home and greatly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing cards, games, jigsaw puzzles and dining out with family and friends. She loved working outside in her flower garden. She sewed, knitted, and embroidered often drawing her own designs on embroidered dish towels. Mildred served in many areas at St. Paul Lutheran Church as a Sunday school teacher, counting committee, Cotta Guild and quilters. She enjoyed attending worship services and Bible studies.

She is survived by her children Gerald (Rebecca) Kuschel, Mary (James) Wyffels and Cathy (Mark) Kopperud all of Waseca; grandchildren Matthew (Jessica) Klinger, Jonathan (Molly) Klinger, Zachary Wyffels, Allison and Grace Kuschel,  Daylan (Krysten) Callahan, April (Quintin) Auten; six great grandchildren; siblings Hilda Hagen of Camas, Washington, Hugo Hein of Lincoln City, Oregon, Martin (Peggy) Hein of Washougal, Washington; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Alton) Duebner, Donna, Peggy and Sharon Hein; Ronald’s siblings,  Robert (Jean) Kuschel, Judy Olson, Karen (Ralph) Young, and Verna Kuschel; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron; son, James Kuschel; brothers, Gus, Walt, Clarence, Harold, Erwin and Paul Hein; sisters, Frieda Stevens and Emma Naffin; an infant granddaughter and grandson; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 4:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of services at the church.
