Alice L. Labs

ALICE L. LABS, age 89 of Waterville, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Traditions of Waterville.

Born on April 12, 1927 in Otisco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Carl and Nilla (Karlstad) Tollefson.  On November 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Walter F. Labs at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.   After her marriage, Alice worked at Backman’s Produce in Waterville.  After leaving Backman’s, she worked at the Waterville Nursing Home until her retirement.    Alice loved reading, car rides and occasional trips to the casino.  She had a bubbly sense of humor and remained a kid at heart throughout her long life.  She loved inventing games for her grandchildren, singing childhood songs in Norwegian and telling stories of her childhood.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.  Family and faith were a very important part of her life.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy L. Labs and his wife Sandy of Waterville and Douglas W. Labs and his wife Liz of Mankato; five grandchildren, Hillary Stockwell, Heather, Jessica and Harriet Labs, and Melissa Naylon; nine great grandchildren, Claire, Grant, Hans, Kailee, Keaston, Korbin, Krista, Kylie and Jonny; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Samantha Labs; four brothers, Chester, Melvin, Russell and Arvid; and four sisters, Lillian, Ruth, Dorothy and Evelyn.

It was Alice’s wish to only have a brief graveside service.  Services will be held at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 3:30 PM with Rev. David Mumme officiating.  A dinner will be served following the service in the social hall of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.
