Willmette "Willie" Mahler

WILLMETTE MARION MAHLER, age 102 formerly of Waseca died on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at her home in Edina.

Born on December 10, 1914 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Elmer and Mabel (Anderson) Schlicht.  She graduated from Waseca High School in 1933.  She was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Waseca until 1940 when she married George “Pete” Mahler on June 23, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa.   Willie was a housewife and mother until later working with her husband at Mahler’s Our Own Hardware.  She enjoyed canning, baking, cooking, dancing, fishing and playing cards.  Willie was a friend to many, young and old, and touched many hearts with her contagious smile and laugh when visiting and having conversations with everyone. She was the oldest member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca and also belonged to Ruth Circle.  In addition, Willie was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.   A special thank you to Willie’s caregivers Marlene, Rina & Mitzi.

She is survived by two children, Glenn (Mary Ann) Mahler of Brainerd and Connie Mahler of Edina; two grandchildren, Heidi (David) Watson and Peter (Molly) Mahler; five great grandchildren, Eddie, Georgia and Connolly Watson and Finley and Parker Mahler.   She is also survived by one sister, Marlys Wightman of Alexandria, nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Norma Malloy and Geraldine Gottschalk, one nephew Mark Wightman.

Memorial services will be held in Waseca on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 at Faith United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Visitation will be held for one hour before services at the church.  

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
