Theodore "Ted" W. Matz

THEODORE “TED” WILLIAM MATZ, age 99 of Waseca, died on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Heath System – Mankato, one week shy of his 100th birthday. 

Born in Waseca County, Minnesota on September 29, 1919, Ted was the son of William and Mary (Erwin) Matz.  He graduated from Waseca High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945.  He married Dorothy Hanson September 15, 1945 and they were later divorced.  He later married Alice Behsmann December 22, 1969 in Sioux Fall, S.D.  Through the years he was employed primarily as an office manager and bookkeeper at Jim Fox Motors and Dean’s Specialty in Waseca. Ted enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, playing cards, dancing.  Ted also volunteered for many years with the fire department when living in Missouri. Ted was a member of First Congregational Church in Waseca, the Waseca American Legion and a lifetime member of the Waseca VFW. 

Ted is survived by children, Carolyn “CJ” Dungan of San Antonio, TX, Paul (Debbie Mellstrom) Matz of Minneapolis, Sheila Kaiser of Waseca, Greg Matz of New Richland, Judy (Ted) Folstad of Eden Prairie, and Bradley Matz of Phoenix, AZ; significant other, Leona Wenzel;  grandchildren, Jon (Ann) Kaiser, Eric (Jamie) Kaiser, Stacy (Josh) Finck, Penny Kaiser and her significant other, Matt Freeze, Travis Bartz, Adam Matz, Chris (Jessica) Matz, Nathan Matz, Josh Matz, and Jason Folstad and his significant other, Kristina Monsen;  great grandchildren, Matt & Andrew Kaiser, Izac and Ashlyn Kaiser and their mother Vanessa Kaiser, David Matz, Gavin and Savanna Finck; step-children, Roger (Sandy) Behsmann of Santa Rosa, CA, Morgen Behsmann of Waseca, Judy (Tim) Bode of Nicollet and Betty Lilley of Paris, IL; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren;  and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons-in-law, Mike Dungan and David Kaiser, brothers, Vinton, James and John, sisters, Dorothy Malmquist, Marion Rocek, Polly Streitz.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 4-7 PM at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church in Waseca.   Burial with military honors will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
