Loretta G. McCarthy

LORETTA GRACE McCARTHY, age 75 of Waseca, died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born in Waseca on October 30, 1942, Loretta was the daughter of George and Grace (Wolter) Larson.  She attended school in Waseca, and following her graduation in 1960, she continued her schooling in at the Naeve School of Nursing in Albert Lea.  Loretta married Joseph McCarthy at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca on December 21, 1962.  It was also in 1962 that she began working as a registered nurse.  Over her thirty-year career, she cared for patients in Mankato, Gaylord, New Richland, Waseca, Phoenix AZ, Faribault, and St. Peter.  After retiring from the medical field in 1992, and after her children were raised and gone she decided to pursue her CDL so that she could more easily travel with her husband.  They traveled many miles together in their Peterbilt before ending their trucking career.  Loretta loved to travel internationally also, and had visited Acapulco, Ireland, and took several fly-in fishing trips to Canada.  She loved fishing, flower gardening, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca where she enjoyed her involvement with the quilting group.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Joe of Waseca; three children, Bret (Nicole) McCarthy of Harrisburg, SD, Lori Jo (Joey) Schleis of Faribault, and Jason (Jenni) McCarthy of Nixa, MO; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with a third on the way; two brothers, Ronald (Joan) Larson of Cottage Grove, and Gerald (Jan) Larson of Dunedin, FL; one sister-in-law, Judy (Chuck) Veflin of New Hope; one brother-in-law, Jeff McCarthy of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. John Omans officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30am until the time of the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Farmamerica in Waseca.
