DEAN CARL MERTINS, age 55 of Waterville died on Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Watertown, South Dakota. Born on September 7, 1957 in Mankato, Minnesota, he was the son of Paul and Doris (Lamont) Mertins. He attended school in Waterville. Dean married Julie Morsching on January 26, 1991. He had spent his life working as a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing cards and was an avid poker player, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed birds and his game farm. Dean was a member of the Silver Lakers Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Julie of Waterville; three children, Karl Dean Mertins of West Concord, Lucas Henry Mertins and special friend, Nicole Bull of Waterville and Naomi Mertins and special friend Jesse Vela of Waterville; and one grandchild on the way. He is also survived by siblings, Marie and Todd Holling, Jim Mertins and friend Jena, Eileen and Keith Delaske, Kevin and Corine Mertins and Jerid Mertins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Warren and Paul; and one sister, Jean Anne. Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 2-6 PM. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at Bullhead’s Bar & Grill in Waterville. |
