John R. Mettler

JOHN RICHARD METTLER, age 77, of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Waseca, died at his daughter’s home in Owatonna on Thursday, September 29, 2016.

Born in Mason City, IA on October 13, 1938, John was the son of Verne and Ruth (Masteller) Mettler.  He graduated from Mason City High School before continuing his education at Mankato State University.  On August 8, 1965 he married Judy Mettler in Britt, IA.  They later divorced.  John served his country with the United States Army for two years before beginning his work with PCA Farm Credit Services.  He later worked on the railroad and for Walmart.  John was a past member of the Waseca Lion’s Club and the Waseca Jaycees.  He enjoyed Nascar, fishing, riding his motorcycle, sailing, and running.  He completed Duluth’s famous “Grandma’s Marathon” when he was in his fifties.

John is survived by his daughter, Dawn Mettler of Owatonna; two grandchildren, Devin Weimer of Rochester, and Sabrina Mettler of Waseca; and his former wife, Judy Mettler of Waseca.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and one sister, Donna Douglas.

A visitation will be held from 10-11AM on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca.  Military honors will then be held at 11:00AM at the funeral home.
