Verna C. Minges

VERNA C. MINGES, age 90 of Waseca died on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on September 1, 1926 in Steele County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Herman and Leora (Kruckeberg) Grunklee.  Verna attended St. John’s parochial school before graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1945.  She then went on to Normal Training in Austin and taught school in rural Clinton Falls for two years.   Verna married Harlan Minges on June 24, 1947 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steele County.   After getting married, she was a homemaker and also helped on the farm.   Her family and faith were of vital importance to her.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Meriden where she was active with the church circle, served on the church council, taught Sunday School, and was a Sunday School superintendant.  Verna was also a 4-H leader, a member of the Waseca Extension Club, served on the board of the Neighborhood Service Center and volunteered with the Waseca Arts Council.

She is survived by three daughters, Marcia (Dennis) Bartz of Waseca, Nancy (Donald) Jewison of Waseca, and Carol (Jon) Larson of Eagan; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother, Norman (Ruth) Grunklee of Red Wing; one sister, Maxine (Harvey) Ronglien of Owatonna; and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ronald; and brother, Dale.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 4-7 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Meriden with Rev. Patti Meyer officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. 

Mom always said, “I love my church.”  After dad’s death it was her rock.  Her devotion within and outside its walls and many acts of outreach touched many lives.  She will remain in our hearts always and we look forward to our reunion in heaven.
