Everett H. Nelson

EVERETT HENRY NELSON, age 91 of Madison Lake, died on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Born on his family’s Waseca County farm on October 25, 1927, Everett was the son of Henry Nelson and Emma (Below) Nelson.  He attended country school at the little pink schoolhouse in Wilton Township before beginning to work on the family farm.  He married Caroline Johanna Paulson in September 1947 at the Le Sueur River Church near New Richland.  They later divorced.  Everett retired from farming in 1966, and at that time married Mildred “Millie” Thompson.  He went on to work for the Overhead Door Company in Mankato for several years before starting his own business, Nelson Garage Doors.  As a younger man, Everett enjoyed dancing, playing the accordion, and playing pfeffer with family and friends.  Later in life he enjoyed volunteering at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center and visiting with friends over coffee at Casey’s in Madison Lake.  Everett was a jack of all trades who loved caring for others and spending time with friends and family.  He was known for his great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke.  He was a long-time member of the Janesville United Methodist Church.

Everett is survived by three children, Dean (Barbara) Nelson of Madison, WI, Shirley Berg of Waseca, and Linda (Chuck) Huebl of Waseca; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren with one more on the way.  He will also be remembered by five step-children, Gary (Randi) Thompson of WI, Loren (Marlene) Fritz of Minneapolis, Julie Knauss and her friend Tom Casey of Rochester, Bob (Gloria) Klinger of Bemidji, Larry (Joanne) Thompson of Winnipeg, ON; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Millie; his former wife Caroline; and two sisters, Smyrna Anderson and Ruth Pogel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Janesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy King officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will take place at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
