Shirley Ann O'Neil

SHIRLEY ANN O’NEIL, age 87 formerly of Edina, died on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.

Born on June 17, 1930 in Otisco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Warren T. and Alma (Priebe) O’Neil.  Shirley was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Otisco.  She graduated from Waseca High School in 1948.  After graduation, she worked at Leon Sexton Accounting firm and was Deputy Clerk of Waseca County.  She moved to Minneapolis in 1953 and was employed at Encyclopedia Britannica, Theodore Stark & Co. CPA, and Traveler’s Express until she retired in 1989.  She then worked at Lifetouch part-time in retirement.

Shirley was a member of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church until her recent move back to southern Minnesota.  She enjoyed playing bridge and was active in many clubs.  She enjoyed her family and said many times that they were all very good to her.

Shirley is survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Karen Nesius of Lake Park, Patricia (Frank) Demonte of Grayslake, IL, Jim (Jan) O’Neil of Faribault, Jon (Vicky) O’Neil of Waseca, Dan O’Neil of Waseca, Michael (Judy) O’Neil of Waseca, Timothy (Karen) O’Neil of Columbus, OH, Kelly Smith of Anaheim, CA, Debbie Bartelt, Keith (Nancy) Schroeder, and Arlys (Craig) Youngberg all of Waseca; sister-in-law, Ann Friday of Waseca; brother-in-law, Phil (Ann) Smith of Whittier, CA; and 57 beloved great nieces and nephews.    She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy, Maxine and Joleen; brothers, Dallas, Curtis, Vernon and Stanley; niece, Lori O’Neil; sisters-in-law, Dorothy O’Neil and Maejeanne O’Neil; nephews, James Nesius and Jerry Bartelt; and great-nephews, Shea O’Neil and Darren Bartelt.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. John Omans officiating.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.   Burial will be at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
