Edward J. Prestegard

EDWARD JAMES PRESTEGARD, age 80 of Waseca died on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the New Prague Hospital.

Born on December 22, 1932 in Owatonna, Minnesota, he was the son of Julian and Evelyn (Gilbertson) Prestegard.  He attended school in Owatonna and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.  Ed married Darlene Miller on September 22, 1956 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Waseca.  He spent his life working at Toro and McQuays in Faribault for 44 years.  Following his retirement, Ed enjoyed traveling every state west of the Mississippi River except for California.  He also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and to the cabin.  He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, and spending time with his granddaughters and great granddaughters.  He was a member of American Legion Post #149 in Morristown and a former member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Waseca; two children, Brenda (Kevin) Lines of Waldorf and Randy (Rose) Prestegard of Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Corrine Miller and Elaine Kaufman of Owatonna; one brother-in-law, Gordon (Verlee) Miller of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Curtis Edward in 1984; one step great-granddaughter, Zoey Rose; two sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Jack Etherton and Barbara and Harvey Gasner; and brother-in-law, Robert Miller.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 4-7 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca with Rev. Victor Waters officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Memorials are preferred to Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital.
