Mildred M. Ricketts

MILDRED MARIE RICKETTS, age 90 of Waseca, MN, formerly of Pierre, SD, died on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Colony Court in Waseca.

Born in Garretson, South Dakota on July 9, 1924, she was the daughter of Henry and Nellie (VanSteenwyck) Kroon.  She attended Garretson High School and then Stewart Beauty School in Sioux Falls, SD.   Millie married Wallace Ricketts on Nov. 15, 1947 in Flandreau, SD.  They moved to Pierre, SD in 1962 and through the years she worked at various locations including Bell Telephone Company, K-Mart, Riggs High School, Pierre Hallmark store and later for the state of South Dakota. Millie’s interests include flowers & gardening, bowling, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, crafts, cards and playing Scrabble.  She was a member of Oahe Presbyterian Church in Pierre.

Mildred is survived by two children, Beckie (Greg) Johnson of Box Elder, SD and Scott (Jodi) Ricketts of Waseca, MN; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Lavonne (Ordell) Westra of Rockford, IL and Lorrayne Monticello of Sioux Falls, SD;
and her lifelong friend, Betty McDorman.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother-Bud Kroon, one sister-Irma Butler, and lifelong friends Vivian Johnson and Alice Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Oahe Presbyterian Church in Pierre, SD with Rev. John Armstrong officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD on Friday.
