Merle May Rietfort

MERLE MAY RIETFORT, age 88 of Waseca, died on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on May 2, 1925 in Waseca, Minnesota she was the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Weckwerth) Rietfort.  She graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1943.  For several years she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and later the Water and Light Department for the City of Waseca for 29 years before retiring in 1985.  In earlier years, Merle enjoyed bowling and riding horseback.  She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in the backyard.  She was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan, win or lose.  Merle was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca.  She was also a member of the Wilton River Riders Saddle Club where she had served as treasurer for two years and the VFW Auxiliary Post #1642 where she was past president.

Merle is survived by three nieces; two great nieces; one great nephew; one great great niece; and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Wally Schoenrock.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. John Omans officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church on Thursday. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church.
