Blanche Roemhildt

BLANCHE ROEMHILDT, age 96 of Waseca, died on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Lakeshore Inn in Waseca.

Born in Elysian Township on April 11, 1917, Blanche was the daughter of Richard and Blanche (Warner) Clarke.  She went to elementary school in Elysian and then graduated from Waterville High School in 1935.  She continued her education at the Mankato Teacher’s College, graduating in 1938.  Following her schooling, she taught in District 60, Iosco Township until 1940.  On August 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Alvin Roemhildt at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian.  Together they farmed in Iosco Township, and Blanche continued her career as a teacher’s aide at the Waseca Middle School for ten more years.  Alvin passed away on August 20, 1976.  She continued to reside on the farm until 1984 when her sons took over the farm and she moved into Waseca.  Blanche was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waseca where she had been active as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years, and was a member of the Cotta Guild and 29’ers Club.

Blanche is survived by five children, Bob (Janelle) Roemhildt of Waseca, Ron (Linda) Roemhildt of Waseca, Jan (Robert) Abbe of Meriden, Bonnie (Ernie) Savage of Spokane, WA, and Bettie Reising of San Diego, CA; twelve grandchildren and many great and step grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her brothers Richard (Daisy) Clarke and Joe Clarke; her sisters, Margaret and Mildred Clarke; and all of her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their spouses.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Giles Zimmer officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John’s Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township.
