Genevieve A. Roessler

GENEVIEVE AGNES (JEWISON) ROESSLER, age 100 of Elysian, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, MN.

Born in Janesville Township, Waseca County, MN on January 22, 1919, Genevieve was the daughter of Christopher and Bridget (Cahill) Jewison.  She attended country school in rural Janesville and later Janesville High School.  On February 18, 1941 she married John “Jack” Roessler at the Church of St. Ann in Janesville.  A lifelong resident of south-central Minnesota, Genevieve had worked at Backman’s, at Dorothy Cross’s Nursing Home, and at the Hometown Café in Elysian before beginning her career of over 30 years, as the head cook for Elysian school.  She loved her many years at the school and didn’t choose to retire until she was 84 years old.  She also worked as the head cook at Singing Hills Girl Scout Camp for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and helping people in any way she could.  She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Elysian, and belonged to St. Andrew CCW, Elysian Lake Area Women, Elysian American Legion Auxiliary, Ridge Road Ladies’ Extension Club, Catholic Daughters of Waseca, and Elysian Area Chamber of Commerce.

Genevieve (Gen) is survived by three children, Pat Nusbaum of Elysian, John (Carol) Roessler of Elysian, and Tom (Pat) Roessler of St. Peter; one daughter-in-law, Karen Roessler of Waseca; twelve grandchildren, Ann (Shawn Nelson) Nusbaum, Joe (Karen) Nusbaum, Kellie Roessler Moseley, Tim (Amy) Roessler, Peter (Amy Jo) Roessler, Matthew (Shane) Roessler, Brenda (John) Bendix, Chris Roessler, Becky (John) Lysen, Allison (Brian) Schilla, Tom (Stephanie) Roessler, and Abby (Steve) Edgar; 30 great and step-great grandchildren, Stasia and Emma Nelson, Natalie, Jenna, Brianna, and Abby Nusbaum, Jack and Ben Moseley, Aaron, Andy, and Avery Roessler, Cole Dillon, and Madison Roessler, Amelia and Elizabeth Roessler, Anthony, Isaac, and Leah Bendix, Dillon and Clara Roessler, Kaitlynn, Ella, and Johnna Lysen, Alex Schilla, Clay and Ty Roessler, Ethan, Aubree, and Ashton Volk, Cooper Edgar; one sister-in-law Mildred Jewison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Margaret (Veryl) Stangler, Sr. Mary Christopher Jewison, OSF; five brothers, William “Henry” (Hilda), Lawrence “Buddy”, Raymond (Mildred), John and Christopher; one son, Richard “Dick” Roessler; one son-in-law, Jerome Nusbaum; and one grandson, Lynn Roessler.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian, with Fr. Michael Ince officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
