Lowell W. Schmidt

LOWELL WESLEY SCHMIDT, age 88 of Waseca died on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in Waseca.

Born on October 24, 1928 in Woodville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of Arthur and Esther (Weckwerth) Schmidt.  He attended rural School District #35 in Waseca County and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 until his discharge in 1953.   Lowell married Helen Bartsch on January 25, 1958 in Rapidan.  Together they lived and farmed in Otisco Township where they raised horses, beef and dairy cattle.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Waseca; three children, Cindy (Perry) Rieck of Waseca, Kalvin (Dawn) Schmidt of Waterville, and John (Dawn) Schmidt of Montgomery; and six grandchildren, Thomas (Katie) Rieck, Katherine Rieck, Kaleb and Kaden Schmidt and Olivia and Nora Schmidt.  He is also survived by one sister, Marcia (Dale) Hass of Rochester and one brother, Dale (Ellen) Schmidt of DeBarry, FL.   He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one infant son.
