Helen Schultz

Helen Clares (Iverson) Schultz was born August 11, 1929 & stepped into Jesus arms on March 12, 2019 at the age of 89. She was on the farm with her family. Helen was fondly known by most as the “egg lady”.   She was also an incredible pie baker! Helen attended country school in Blooming Grove Township through eighth grade and then went to high school in Waseca. After graduation Helen‘s Uncle Bill helped her buy a Model A and Helen took a job in the office at the EF Johnson company in Waseca where she worked until she married Alvin Schultz on October 4, 1950.  They farmed SW of Owatonna on Alvin’s homeplace. Organic farming was a way of life for them. They loved every aspect of farming. Helen raised chickens and sold eggs around the area from 1950 to 2009.  She started selling eggs in the Twin Cities in 1971. She loved working with her eggs!

Helen helped put together and played on the first women’s softball team in Waseca. She played without a glove. She also liked bowling & dancing. Helen had a love of driving that started with her little blue bicycle & moved on to her Model A and continued her whole life! She loved being on a little Ford tractor or behind the wheel of a car and proudly drove well into her 80s! Helen adored her family and loved to have a good time! Some of her grandchildren lovingly called her “The Troublemaker”. Helen knew how to make people smile and where ever she went she created a little “posse” and cut loose. She always fought for the “underdog” and love to razz the “big dog”.

Helen is survived by her children; Nancy (John) Karas of Duluth, Glen (Connie) Schultz of Waseca, and Larry (Lucinda) Schultz of Owatonna; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christine, Anna, and Catherine Karas; Derrick, Hannah, Megann, & Jillian Schultz; Valerie (Dan) Strait, Kassie, Wesley (Jayden), Susie, Sidney, & Rodney Schultz; and great grandchildren: Elias Strait & Khloe DeNeui. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Alvin Schultz; sister, Myrtle (Archie) Teply; brothers, Reuben (Thelma) Iverson & Marvin (Mary) Iverson; parents, Ole & Freida (Ristau) Iverson; and her special Aunt & Uncle William & Helen (Ristau) Schunke who raised (& later adopted) Helen following her mother’s death.
