Harland A. Schwichtenberg

HARLAND A. SCHWICHTENBERG, age 83 of Waterville died on Saturday, October 8, 2016, his daughter Darla’s birthday, at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Born on August 11, 1933 in Rice County, Minnesota, he was the son of Richard and Esther (Velzke) Schwichtenberg.   Harland attended school in Waterville and later Dunwoody Institute.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge returned to Minnesota.  He married ReLou Gylsen on May 25, 1957.  Harland was employed with Red Owl and SuperValu in the Twin Cities and Madsen’s in Mankato before beginning his employment with McGlynn Bakeries in Minneapolis.  Harland worked as District Manager of McGlynn Bakeries in Houston, TX and Minnesota before retiring.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, wine making and gardening.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-German Lake and American Legion Post 311 in Elysian.

He is survived by his wife, ReLou of Waterville and one daughter, Darla (David) Jenkins of Bellaire, TX.  He is also survived by one brother, Roger (Ivadelle) Schwichtenberg of Faribault; one sister, Joann Schwichtenberg of Chicago, IL; two brothers-in-law, Nelmer Morsching of Waterville and Lowell Hetletvedt of Faribault; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lorraine Morsching, Arlene Brekke, and Mayion Hetletvedt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-German Lake (22693 German Lake Road, Waterville) with Rev. Van Miller officiating.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, one hour before services at the church.  Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
