John "Jumpy" Serie

JOHN “JUMPY” SERIE, age 74 of Waseca died on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the New Richland Care Center.

Born on March 23, 1941 in Luverne, Minnesota, he was the son of Wallace and Caroline (Cawels) Serie.  He graduated from Luverne High School and went on to attend Worthington Community College and Mankato State University.  He married Ahne Baumgartner on October 29, 1966 in Luverne.  He traveled with a family owned carnival for several years and in 1972 they bought Luverne Lanes Bowling Alley which they owned and operated for 30 years.  He also did sanding and refinishing of hardwood floors in addition to owning and operating a tent rental business.  He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, fixing things, teasing people and making people laugh.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca and the Knights of Columbus as well as the Sons of the American Legion and was a Professed 3rd Order Carmelite.

He is survived by his wife, Ahne of Waseca; seven children, Jorge (Martha) Serie of St. Anthony Village, Julie (Michael) Hawk of Schwenksville, PA, Jona (Joseph) Winkelman of Minneapolis, Joe (Dawn) Serie of Sioux Falls, Jill (Robert) Lambert of Wichita, KS, Joy (Todd) Amunrud of Northfield, and Nicolos (Kayla) Serie of Alexandria; and 23 grandchildren.  He is also survived by siblings, Tom Serie of Luverne, Laura (Terry) Akkerman of Sioux Falls, Nan (Tom) Skattum of Luverne, Rick (Carol) Serie of Luverne; sister-in-law, Audrey Serie of West Concord; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian John; and one brother, Larry.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 4-7 PM and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waseca County.
