William "Bill" Short

WILLIAM “BILL” H. SHORT, age 90 of Elysian died on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.

Born on February 17, 1923 in Elysian, Minnesota, he was the son of Harry and Nellie (Warburton) Short.   He attended school in Elysian and Waterville.  Bill married Jayne Lois Hardegger on February 27, 1943.  He enlisted with the US Army on June 12, 1943 and served until his honorable discharge on March 29, 1946.   Bill spent many years working in the auto industry.  He was co-owner of Elysian Auto and later worked for Hasselquist Buick Pontiac in Waseca, Snell Motors in Mankato and Countryside Motors in Waseca.   He enjoyed traveling, sports, automobiles, gardening and spending time with his family.  Bill was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Waterville, American Legion Post 311 in Elysian, and the Elysian Fire Department.

He is survived by three children, Mary Jo (Russell) Hebl and Tom (Juilee) Short all of Elysian and John (Ronda) Short of Waconia; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two granddaughters, Kelsey and Kalley Short; and three sisters, Bobby Taylor, Harriet Backman, and Emily Coffin.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 3-6 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Waterville with Fr. Henry Doyle officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
