Kenneth Slechta

KENNETH SLECHTA, age 87 of Waterville died on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at his home in rural Waterville.

Ken was born on July 5, 1930 at the homestead in rural Waterville, Minnesota.  He was the son of Thomas and Lena (Thiesen) Slechta.  He graduated from Waterville High School and entered the U.S. Navy serving from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.  Ken married Doris Juberien on September 1, 1954 in Mankato.  Through the years, Ken farmed and worked at Lau’s Meat Market, Leo Slechta and Knish Plumbing & Heating, Stan Blowers Construction and Larson Soft Water.  He also proudly drove bus for the Waterville School District for 50 years.  Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.   Ken was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

Ken is survived by three children, Patricia Slechta of Waseca, Nancy Bistrup of Prior Lake, and Mike Slechta of Waterville; four grandchildren, Jenny (Joe) Kern, Lisa (Matt) Hansen, Sarah Slechta and Erin Slechta; and two great grandchildren, Kendall Kern and Isla Hansen.  He is also survived by two sisters, Leona Pittmann of Waterville and Agnes Ludington of Washington.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in August 2017, brothers, Tony, Chuck, and Thomas Jr. in infancy,  nieces, Linda and Sharon, and great niece, Darla.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.  Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services of Waterville is handling arrangements.
