Craig Allen Smith

CRAIG ALLEN SMITH, of Waseca died peacefully in his sleep on March 8, 2019 at the age of 62.

Craig was born on May 10, 1956 in Menomonie, Wisconsin the son of LaVern “Smitty” and Audrey (Breitzman) Smith.  Craig graduated from Waseca Senior High School in 1974. He immediately joined the Army and served in Hawaii. Upon returning from the service with an honorable discharge in 1977, he started a family and graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was employed at Cybex in Owatonna and then at Corchran’s in Waseca where he served as the Senior Vice President. He retired in 2016 and golfed every day that the weather allowed.

Craig loved his family with all of his heart. His greatest joy was being a grandparent to Ben, Jackie, Lucas, Ashley and Avery. Craig enjoyed golfing, being outfished by his daughter Patty, baking, sharing recipes with his daughter Bobbi, taking fishing trips to Buck Point Resort with his fiancé Mary, and playing cards with “the girls”. He was known in the community for his kindness, stories, jokes, laughter, and smiles. Family and friends could count on Craig to call and hassle them on a regular basis.   

Craig is survived by his mother, Audrey Smith of Owatonna; fiancé, Mary Buenzow of Waseca; daughters, Bobbi (Luke) Mathern of Waseca and Patty Fliflet of Waseca; grandchildren, Ben, Jackie, Lucas, Ashley and Avery; brothers, Brian Smith of Owatonna and Marty (Leslie) Smith of Rochester; many cousins and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Luke Smith; father, LaVern Smith; brother, Tim Smith; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 2-5 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.  Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
