Reno A. Stoering

RENO ARTHUR STOERING, age 91, lifelong resident of Waterville, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born at his family’s home in Elysian Township on August 16, 1923, Reno was the son of Arthur and Nelda (Zellmer) Stoering.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.  Growing up he attended District #44 country school and St. Peter’s “Bell” Parochial School before graduating from Waterville High School in 1942.  Reno was married to Shirley Ann Gilman on December 7, 1958 at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.  They made their home together on the family farm where they worked and raised their family.  Reno was very involved with his church and very committed to his faith, having served as Parochial School Elder, Church Elder, Trustee, and on the finance board.  In his later life he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and he will be remembered as the greatest dad a child could have.

Reno is survived by three children, Timothy Stoering of Waterville, Colleen (Eric) Russell of Wyoming, MN, and Douglas (Debbra) Stoering of Westcliffe, CO; four grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Rohrer of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dean and Janice Gilman of Mankato; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife; a brother, Glen Stoering; and a sister-in-law, Lavonne Jameson.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran church, with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.
