Marlyn "Merly" Strand

MARLYN “MERLY” STRAND, age 81 of Waseca died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Lakeshore Inn in Waseca.

Born in Otisco on February 4, 1933, Merly was the son of Carl and Dorothy (Robran) Strand.  He graduated from Waseca High School in 1951.  In 1977 he married Linda Beilke in New Richland.  They later divorced.  He worked in construction before taking on a career at Herter’s Inc. in Waseca.  He later worked as a crossing guard for South Side Elementary School.  On July 29, 1995, Merly married Darlette Kreuger in Waseca.  He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, and reading history books and westerns.  He was an avid wrestler and enjoyed Minnesota Sports.  He was a former member of the Waseca Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.

Merly is survived by his wife Darlette of Waseca; four children, Jerry Strand of St. Paul, Melissa (Matt) Wappel of Maplewood, Andrew (Stacy) Strand of Redwood Falls, and Alan (Julia) Strand of Janesville; three grandchildren, Abigail, Katelyn, and Makayla, with a fourth grandchild on the way; three step children, Darnell (Bob) Anhorn of Elysian, Rick (Brenda) Kreuger of Big Lake, and Lynnette (Jayson) Shaw of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Clifton (Mary) Strand of Waseca, and Melvin Strand of Waseca; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Strand of Waseca and Dorothy Strand of Alexandria; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Johnson of Waseca.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dianna (Orville) Friedrich, Phyllis Johnson, and Darlene (Richard) Christensen; and two brothers, Don “PeeWee” Strand, and Emerald “Bud” Strand.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. David Baumgarn officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
