Donald H. Tiggelaar

DONALD H. TIGGELAAR, age 79 of Waterville died on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Born on September 8, 1935 at home near Bryant, South Dakota, he was the son of Herman and Nellie (Johnson) Tiggelaar.  He attended country school before graduating from Willow Lake High School in 1953.   He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from 1954 before transferring to the Army Reserves in 1956.  Don married Mary K. Carroll on January 8, 1957 at St. Thomas More Church in Brookings, SD. 

After his stint in the army, Don started out in road construction in SD.  He soon became employed in Harvest States GTA and held various positions including manager of elevators in Madison, MN and Morris, MN.  He then found his calling in sales with a position selling feed for Harvest States GTA in Carrington ND and Owatonna MN.  He then became a salesman and sales manager for RBA Seeds, Olivia MN and worked his way into management positions; ultimately managing salesman for Stauffer Seeds for 8 northern Midwest states.  As a result of corporate buyouts, he left seed sales and started an American Family Insurance agency in Waterville, MN in 1986.  He retired from this agency in 2000.  The years of service as an American Family agent in Waterville were some of his happiest years.  It allowed him the time to devote to his hobbies and family. He enjoyed his Saturday morning breakfast at Tucker’s Tavern and his morning and afternoon coffee with the boys.  He also loved hunting, fishing, flying and reading.   Don was a member of the American Legion Post 311 in Elysian.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Tom (Marilyn) Tiggelaar of Onalaska, WI, Barb (Greg) Linde, Waukee, IA, Theresa (Ken) Glende of Faribault, and Mark (Cindy) Tiggelaar of Fitchburg, WI; 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, two sons, one grandson, and two nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour before services at the church
