Darla Jean Vilt

DARLA JEAN VILT, age 75 of Waseca, died at home on Friday, July 8, 2016.

Born in Fairmont on January 22, 1941, Darla was the daughter of Harold Raymond and Minnie Johanna (Thamer) Wood.  She graduated from high school in Truman before attending Mankato State University.  From 1960 until 1962 she worked as “Miss Merriweather” on channel 12.  Darla was married to Darryl Allan Vilt on June 9, 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Truman.  She went on to work as an admissions secretary at Hamline University, a secretary at the University of Minnesota, a pre-school teacher at Hansel & Gretel in Waseca, and finally in administration at the hospital in Waseca.  When her first grandchild was born in 1999 Darla chose to retire, and she has been a full-time grandma ever since.  In years past, Darla enjoyed golf, tennis, and watching “The Young and the Restless”.  She also loved cards, sewing, reading, and collecting angels.  More than any of these, though, caring for her children and grandchildren was her favorite past time.  She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.

Darla is survived by her husband of 54 years, Darryl of Waseca; two sons, Chris (Kim) Vilt of New Prague, and Greg (Stacy) Vilt of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Fletcher, Ragan, Dylan, and Maximus; and one sister, Marge Knoll of Luverne.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Dale Knoll; and one sister-in-law, Carol (Vilt) Peterson.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Kristi Mitchell officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca
