Raymond V. Volkman

RAYMOND V. VOLKMAN, age 86 of Waterville died on Monday, March 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Born on October 10, 1930 in Janesville, Minnesota, he was the son of Jacob and Clara (Roeker) Volkman.  He attended school in Waldorf and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954.  Ray married Ardella Radcliff on September 3, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.  He attended technical school in Mankato and received his Masters A Electrical License in 1960.  He received a loan from Eldon Zachman to purchase his first truck and began Volkman Electric which he continued to operate with his sons, Keith and David.  He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, coin collecting and reading.  Ray was a people person and loved the lights of Las Vegas.   He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville and the Darkhouse Association.  Ray and sons also volunteered many hours each June to Bullhead Days and wiring of the Bullhead Stand.  Ray had also served on the Waterville Fire Department for over 30 years.

He is survived by four children, Keith Volkman of Waterville, Steve (Laura) Volkman of New Hope, Lynette Volkman of Mankato and David (Amber) Volkman of Waterville; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother, Herb (Edna) Volkmann of Waterville; brother-in-law, Doug Winter of Faribault; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Walter) Hill of Waseca and Joan Stahmann of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Kathleen; two sisters, Arlene Williams and Shirley Winter; and two brothers, Victor Volkman and one in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4-7 PM and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.  Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
