Merlin Wegner

MERLIN MERVIN JOHN HERMAN WEGNER, age 77 of Waseca, formerly of Lewisville died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca following a short battle with cancer.

Born on September 20, 1938 in Madelia, he was the son of Mervin and Hildegard (Karau) Wegner.  He was baptized at home and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Lewisville.  Merlin attended grade school in Lewisville before graduating from Truman High School in 1958.  After graduation, he continued to farm with his dad raising turkeys and pigs and milking cows.  His favorite pastime was roller skating and going to old time dances.  It was at the Kato Ballroom where he met his wife, Geraldine Kroeger and they were married on August 17, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church-Wilton in Waseca County.  He continued to farm until 1986.  In the spring of 1986 he began working at the House of Print in Madelia and retired from there in 2007.  He and Geraldine moved to Waseca in June of 2016.

Merlin was active in his church and served as head usher for many years.  He was also involved in numerous community activities including the Lewisville Fun Daze and he volunteered his time in many other areas for the City of Lewisville.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Waseca; brothers, Dallas (Arlene) Wegner of Truman, Richard (Jacque) Wegner of Mankato; sisters, Myrna (Marvin) Gag of Mankato, and Vicki (Thomas) Hawkes of Lewisville. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Robert Hinderscheid of Brandon and Lester (Jane) Kroeger of Waseca; sister-in-law, Twyla (Randy) Schmidt of Waseca; step-brothers, Marvin (Renee) Jensen of Mantorville; step-sisters, Barb (Dale) Oakland of Brownsdale, Diane (John) Kozan of Maple Plain, Mary (Jerry) Erck and Lois Jensen of Owatonna; two aunts; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Donald; sister, Sandra Hinderscheid; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clarence Kroeger and Marvel Kroeger-Jensen; step-father-in-law, Arnold Jensen; step-brother, Ronald Jensen; and step-brother-in-law, Gary Scholl.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2:30-5:30 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church- Wilton in Waseca County.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
