Alice Wetzel

ALICE  WETZEL, age 91 of Waterville, died on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Central Healthcare in Le Center.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 28, 1924, Alice was the daughter of Ole and Clara (Johanessen) Degnes.  Growing up, she attended school in River Grove, IL and was also confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in River Grove.  Alice married Earl P. Wetzel in North Carolina in 1942 – just before he was deployed overseas.  Upon his return to the United States, the two of them returned to his family’s home in the Cannonville area and have lived and farmed in the area ever since.  Alice was a hardworking farm wife that was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage.  She enjoyed flowers, her dogs, and birds.

Alice is survived by two children, Judy (Don) Domonoske, and Cliff (Ann) Wetzel, both of rural Waterville; six grandchildren, Chad (Brenda) Domonoske of Waterville, Glen (Sarah) Domonoske of Waterville, Matt (Jen) Wetzel of Wisconsin, Katie (Steve) Egbert of Michigan, Erin Wetzel of Kasson, and Luke Wetzel of Kilkenny; and nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband; and one sister, Elaine Petry.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, with Rev. David Mumme officiating.  Interment will follow at Cannonville Cemetery in rural Le Sueur County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cannonville Cemetery.
